A nice tooth from a Stegodon an ancestor of the Mammoths and Elephant.

This verey nice tooth Measures 10" long 3.2" at the widest 2.58" thick. It is showing some roots at one end 1.87" long.

This is probably Stegodon trigonocephalus.

Stegodons were the largest of all the extinct elephants species (Proboscidea) with adults being 13 feet high at the shoulder, 26 feet long, not including 10 foot long nearly straight tusks. The genus Stegodon, (from Greek stegos: meaning roof, and odon: meaning tooth, referring to the step ridges on the molar tooth) has its origins in the late Miocene of Asia and belongs to the family Stegodontidae.
