Cycling in the Pyrennees

Where?

The Pyrennees are the mountains between France and Spain. The roads in the area are very suitable for cycling and are often featured in the Tour de France (the famous Col de Tourmalet, for instance).

Nearby airports are Barcelona (also worth a visit itself), Girona, Toulouse.

Photographs

Unlike my C2C page, this is not a holiday guide. Just some pictures which I hope may enthuse you.

(Click on any small image to get a full-sized photo. If it doesn't work, I've probably had to delete the full-sized image files, to make room for something else).

The beautiful Valle de Pineta near Bielsa
At the end of the road from Gavarnie towards Spain
From the camp at Gavarnie, looking towards the waterfalls
In the Ordesa National Park, on the other side of the mountain ridge to Gavarnie. No cars beyond this point, but a bike will go a little further.

Oh dear, a broken axle and all the shops are shut ...

Some of the passes only just cling to the mountain-side. Not for those with vertigo!
The most sensible thing to attach to the front rack ...
A day off from the bikes.
Phew! Made it to the top.
