The 6th British Unicycle Convention |
3rd - 5th September 1999
At:- The Broli Performing Arts Centre, The Clocktower, Mostyn, Flintshire, CH8 9HFWhat Is The British Unicycle Convention?
The British Unicycle Convention is an event run by unicyclists for unicyclists, allowing unicycle enthusiasts from all over the country - and abroad- to meet, have fun, and share ideas and tricks. The Convention provides the opportunity to compete against others in events - both competitively and for fun - and to hold the "annual" British Unicycle Hockey championship.
The appeal of the event is broad, with workshops for all areas of unicycling, including ones for absolute beginners.
The Convention is open to people of all ages and abilities, and there will also be the opportunity to meet and/or purchase equipment from the world leading manufacturers of unicycles and associated equipment.
What Does This Year's Convention Have To Offer?
The Broli Performing Arts Centre is based at the superbly equipped Clocktower, which is a listed building with a 200 seat auditorium, that has recently been developed as a centre for the Community and for Performing Arts. Situated only 45 minutes from Chester/Liverpool/Snowdonia, there is dormitory style accommodation for 24 people; camping area nearby; a café (catering for both omnivores and vegetarians); a licensed bar (just what you need after a hard day's unicycling); an outdoor performance and function area; Skate ramps; and an abundance of tarmac to fall off on. There are also shops and bars nearby.
|
The convention will open at 7:00pm on Friday 3rd September 1999, to allow people to "settle in", and to partake of a uni-pub-crawl. Saturday will see an abundance of hockey and basketball games (both serious and seriously silly); numerous workshops; a MUNI expedition (probably at Snowdonia as it's so nearby, it would be a shame not to go there). In the evening, there will be a stupendous cabaret, and, if you're really good, then maybe a local band will also come down to entertain you while you take full advantage of the licensed bar (Anyone requiring lessons on how to dance on a unicycle should see Roger - or perhaps you did, at Durham!). Sunday's hangover can be cured (?) by the treasure/scavenger hunt; more workshops; loads of silly games; and some very dubious races (yes, we put Ali in charge of them again, and she's had a whole year now to think up some incredibly daft ones); There will be a final opportunity to spend all your hard earned dosh with the traders; the all important Business Meeting giving you the opportunity to air your views; then, sadly, we all have to go home by 5:00pm (Ahh, shame, Ho Hum). |
