INTRODUCTION TO THE SITE AND THE CLUB
| 1998/9 SEASON The 1998/9 season was reasonably successful. The Allied Dunbar trophy moved to a new home at Welford Road but the Falcons reached the Tetley's Bitter Cup Final and took the side's new owners to Twickenham on May the 15th to face Lawrence Dallaglio's Wasps. Unfortunately the trophy remained in London. Another disappointment was the Falcons failure to qualify for the European Cup although they have been playing in the Shield Competition against such teams as Brieve and Pau. The younger players surpassed themselves making the semi final of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Cup only to lose on a try count and of course a number of the team went on to play in the Five Nations and on International tours during the summer. |
1997/8 League
Champions!!!!The Newcastle Falcons shot to the top of the Allied Dunbar Premiership after only two years under the management of Rob Andrew, Dean Ryan and Steve Bates. Three years ago the club could be found struggling to survive at the foot of Division One. Sir John Hall saw the potential of the North East Club and gave Rob the target of creating a winning squad within five years. A series of astute signings of big names and a policy of development of younger players, saw promotion to the Premiership in 1996/7. In their very first season in the top flight, a steam roller ride to the championship took everyone by surprise (even Stuart Barnes!). The 1998 / 1999 season saw the departure of Sir John and the take over by another local businessman with a long standing interest in the game, Dave Thompson. |

Now back to
the site. We decided to write a supporters web page to
show the supporters dedication to the club, we also had a
long holiday and needed a project. We hope that you enjoy
reading the site as much as we enjoyed writing it. We
would like to say a huge thank you to all of the
supporters from both Newcastle and other sides who have
met us or who have written on the message board with
thoughts and opinions. Better let you go as you've got a lot to read, so bye and we hope we'll see you during the coming season! |
