The Nightingale involvement with Loghtan sheep was based on a couple of casual sightings, a need for something to graze off the paddocks, and an advert in the Country Garden and Smallholder. Michael has friends who live on the Isle of Man and on one of our visits there we came across some Manx rams - Michael was immediately enamoured by these sheep - but we couldn't work out a simple way of getting some home- smuggling them back on the ferry wasn't really an option. Then we spotted an advert for Island Heritage - which is a shop specialising in wools from Island sheep - one tentative phone call later and we were told that they didn't have any sheep for sale - however they knew someone who did- twenty minutes later we were talking to the ones who did and two days later we bought Doris and Daphne and the Quaker flock was begun.

For 1998 we have used two different rams Gerald and Harry and we are looking forward to their progeny. To see their progress so far this year click here
